6 Do's and Don'ts to Maintain or Grow Your Edges

4c natural hair full edges slicked back with edge control

DO tie your hair down with a satin or silk scarf at night
DON'T tie it too tight. Also, steer clear of bonnets with the rubber, stretchy perimeter.

DO massage your scalp
DON'T do it too often(daily) or massage too vigorously. You could cause more harm than good.

DO use an alcohol free gel or edge control to "lay" down your edges
DON'T pile it on daily. It can still dry out your edges and cause damage. Tip: Use an oil after applying to soften the hair a bit and also use oil to remove the product.

DO protective style your hair with braids, buns, twists, etc
DON'T put too much stress on your edges when doing them. Either leave your edges out or be very gentle when handling them.

DO make sure you always keep them moisturized and strong.
DON'T clog your pores. So regular washing is necessary.

DO pay close attention to how you're caring for your edges.
DON'T stress too much about them! Stress is never good for the hair and can make the situation worse.
