Cornrow Styles for Women: Summer Protective Styles

Summer is officially here and the last thing most of us want to do is to style our hair daily. This is when Protective Styling comes in handy. Protective Styles are the best way to give your hair a break while keeping it healthy and cute at the same time. One of the quickest and easiest protective styles to do is cornrows.

Here are a few cornrow styles that I have been loving lately: 

Beyonce's "Lemonade" Braids. Let's face it, Beyonce has been the (celebrity)queen of braids for a while now. She has been rocking them, on and off, since she came on the scene. I have been seeing this particular style being replicated EVERYWHERE and for good reason. These are beautiful yet classy at the same time and go with any outfit! 

Meagan Good - Goddess Faux Loc Styles

Meagan Good is gorgeous and can rock just about any hairstyle. When she first came on the scene, she had long black hair which was her signature style for a while. Then throughout the years she switched it up a bit. I particularly loved her short styles, but I am now loving the Goddess Locs(shocker right?!) on her.

Hair Crush: Kelly Rowland

Has anyone seen how beautiful Kelly Rowland looked at Beyoncé's push party?! If not, take a look below. She looked absolutely gorgeous which inspired me to make this post. Gone are the days of Kelly's signature short cut and she now switches up her hair regularly.

Natural Hair Crush: 'This is Us' Star Susan Kelechi Watson

I recently binge watched 'This is Us' and let me tell you, that show is amazing. I haven't experienced such a range of emotions while watching a T.V show in such a long time. It deals with real life issues, the acting is impeccable and it keeps you guessing.

So for those that watch/watched it; have you noticed how often Raymond's wife, Beth(Susan Kelechi Watson), switches her hair up?  I sure did and loved every bit of it. Loved it so much that I am dedicating this post to her.

Let's take a look at some of her beautiful hairstyles:

Rihanna - Faux Locs Styles

Rihanna is an Island gal so she is no stranger to locs (or dreadlocks as some, but not myself, may call them). She may not have grown them naturally , but you can see that she definitely appreciates and admires the look. What better way to show appreciation than to emulate it. In my opinion, Rihanna took faux locs to another level. We're so used to seeing them very neatly done, small to mid-sized, straight parts, and very smooth/frizz free locs, but in Rihanna fashion, she did her own thing.

Now y'all know I'm a braids gal, so there is no surprise that I always LOVED the braids Beyonce wore back in her Destiny's Child days. 

I'm glad to see her bring them back, although they are a little different than before. 

A lot of people are acting surprised to see her in them, but I recall braids being her signature style. Plus..braids on a black woman never surprises me. lol


One thing I could do without is the blonde...but then again, that's her signature hair color.

Essence Women in Hollywood Favs

Can I just say that I love how Nicole Ari Parkers cornrows look in this photo?!?!

It's simple, yet so cute! Next time I do some cornrows, I'll be sure to add extra hair or rows so I can make full buns like this!

Viola Davis looks stunning!!! I think she looks 1,000 times better wearing her natural hair opposed to the wigs and weaves we always see her in!

When I first saw some photos of Traci Ellis Ross' new hair color, I wasn't really feeling it because I was so used to her hair being black. But after seeing these photos...I am loving this color on her.

Venus Williams- Au Naturel

It's great to see Venus Williams back to playing Tennis!! She served in her first match in 5 months despite having Sjogren's Syndrome and is on her way to being the fantastic Tennis play she has always been.

It's also great to see Venus rocking her hair in it's natural state (I believe she was natural when she had those braids and beads..ya'll remember that??)!

Now, keep in mind that these photos were taken AFTER her Tennis match! Show me someone with gorgeous hair after an intense work-out, game, match..etc, and I'll give you $5.00.

I wish Venus much success and I'm also looking forward to see what kind of natural hair-styles she comes up with.

Celebrity Look Alike - Serena Williams

For years and years I have been told that I look like Serena Williams....facially that is(lol).
At first I thought it was because of the braids I used to wear, but I still hear it to this DAY (actually, today to be exact).

I don't take it as a compliment or insult....I just don't see it.

So..you tell me..Do you really think I look like Serena Williams?

Shakira Chops it Off

Well, she decided it was time for a change and debuted her new do via Twitter.

It's a cute cut, but I prefer longer hair on her!

Cynthia Bailey

I just finished watching The Real Housewives of Atlanta and in this episode Peter Thomas had a small debut of his new bar. He revealed a portrait/painting of Cynthia Bailey-Thomas and she looked absolutely stunning! (sorry if I ruined this scene for those who haven't seen this yet)
A few ladies on the show reactions were, "Wow, that's a big fro", but my initial reaction was, "Wow, she looks gorgeous!"
Although I know this isn't all her hair...I believe it's very post worthy!

LaLa Vasquez-Anthony's Head Piece

Lala attended Alicia Keys annual "Keep a Child Alive Black Ball", which brings celebrity and philanthropy together to fulfill hopes, dreams and raise funds for children and families with HIV/AIDS in Africa and India.


When I saw this photo of Lala..it immediately caught my eye. This is such an easy way to dress-up a bun and make it look ellegant!  I'm not sure if I would wear that, but I think she looks great!

Don't Do this At Home Ladies!

Let me first say that Diana Ross had/has some beautiful hair!!

So beautiful that back in the day,  some women would go to the extremes to achieve this look.

In regards to Solange Knowles Style Inspiration, on Styleblazer.com she stated:

"Diana Ross is the quite obvious one. If you look at pictures of her in the ’60s, ’70s, through the ’80s, she embodied everything about that era in such a timeless way. Her hair is a whole other conversation! And seeing photos of my mother from the ’60s and ’70s, she was a total rebel with her style. She had extremely fine hair and washed it with detergent to coarsen it up and had this amazing Afro."

Washing Hair with Detergent?!?!?- Ladies..I don't suggest this AT ALL!!

Rihanna- Phony Pony's

Rihanna is the queen of style, from head to toe. I typically love her hairstyles, but for some reason, I'm not loving these ponytail/bun styles on Rihanna. I think a more textured ponytail would look great on her! But she looks fabulous nonetheless!
