The Wonderful Benefits of Aloe Vera for Hair

I have been using Aloe Vera Gel for a number of purposes:

Hair Gel
To Shave- Sometimes
Soothing of Relaxer Burn
In my Mix for Braid Spray/as a Moisturizer
As a facial moisturizer in the winter when my skin gets really dry

just to name a few

But never did I think to use Aloe Vera Gel or the Juice as a leave-in...
And boy oh boy was I missing out. Remember how I said I was dealing with extreme tangles and knots..well I tried 2 things to help fix that issue

  1. Wash my hair in Sections/Braids
  2. Used an Aloe Vera Gel Mix as a leave-in which included:
  • Distilled Water
  • Aloe Vera Gel
  • Castor Oil

My hair has never felt so soft!
I went out and purchased a gallon of Aloe Vera Juice from Walmart...called Fruit of the Earth and I will be using the Juice instead of the Gel in my mixes for now on. Not only will I use it for my leave-in's but I will use it to restore moisture in my hair at night(on non wash days).

2 More things about Aloe Vera Juice which have me excited to use it

  • Many reviews of how it slowed down shedding drastically
  • Restores the PH level back in relaxed hair

  1. Awhile ago I used aloe Vera baby oil gel on my hair. Is that OK to use?

  2. I would suggest using 99.8% or more Aloe Vera Gel or Juice. The more pure the better. I looked at the ingredients for the Johnsons Aloe Vera Baby Gel and I see mineral oil, hexyl laurate and a whole bunch of other ingredients. But Aloe Vera is not on the top of the ingredient list..I would make sure anything you purchase has Aloe Vera in the top of the ingredient list.

  3. Do you still use this combination as a leave-in? I've been loving Aloe Vera Juice to detangle when I prepoo but never considered using it as a leave in. I was just searching online and it led me to your page. i'm currently relaxed/texlaxed and wondering if there would be an adverse reaction to using AVJ as a leave-in. Thank you!

  4. @Maia- I don't use that combination leave-in anymore, BUT I do spray 99.9% Aloe Vera Juice on my hair before I apply my leave-in. Aloe Vera Juice helps smooth the cuticle, so I receive the same benefits. I don't see why you would have an adverse reactions. If you already have AVJ, it wouldn't hurt to try it out.

    1. Hello. Yes, you can. There will be no adverse reactions if you do so. It's similar to applying it to your face or body.

    1. Even better. Straight to the source and 100% natural. Many people, including myself, have cut open the leaf and rubbed it on my skin or scalp
