Stick to My Afro-Puffs?

Happy New Year!!! Here's to an amazing 2016!

For most that know and see me on a regular basis, I am either a puff, twists or 2 "French-braids" kind of gal. But because I planned on doing much more with my hair in 2016, I decided to start the moment I made that decision. So around Christmas, I decided to try a braid-out. Hey, gotta start off easy right?!

Ok, let's get into it.

I started off with:

• Detangling and Conditioning my hair- Trader Joes Tea Tree Conditioner mixed with Coconut Oil
• Washing- SheaMoisture Smooth & Repair Conditioning Shampoo, Tahitian Noni & Monoi 
• T-Shirt Drying My hair
• Spraying hair with ApHogee Keratin and Green Tea Restructurizer
• Applying my Shea-butter mix to hair in sections
• Applying Tahitian Noni & Monoi Dry Oil Mist to each section
• Blow-drying each section on high heat (did this because I washed my hair late at night and did not want to sleep with wet hair)

I really wish I took pics of my hair after blow-drying, but I wasn't thinking about it at the time. I'll get better, y'all! Just getting back into the swing of things.

Okay so after all of the above, I:

• Added a little more Shea-butter mix to my hair in sections
• Did about 15 braids
• Added rollers to the end of each braid
• Tied hair with a Satin Scarf
• Let it set overnight for about 6 hour

After removing the braids in the morning, I was left with this :-/.
Disclaimer: My hair may not seem like it grew or thickened up much, but keep in mind that I do MANY trims and my hair texture is super coily and shrinkage is always at maximum.

Not much definition, not enough volume and much shrinkage.

 

And to top it off, it was misty/humid that day, so a few hours later I was left with this:

 

Hey..at least I didn't get heat damage, right? lol

 Oh well. These kind of things are expected with natural hair. I was almost discouraged and was NOT going to try anything different anymore(and stick to my puffs). But that's not fun, is it?
Next time around, if or when I try a braid-out, I will switch up the products and my technique.  But I am not stopping at just braid-outs, I have a lot more styles I want to try out.
